1920's Portuguese Mandolin Label says Valentin De Carvalho Por Augusto Vieira (Lisboa) Solid Spruce Top Solid Walnut Back Brass Tuning Machines Sold
These instruments were made for a Portuguese folk music style called Fado, sometimes described as a kind of Portuguese folk blues music. This instrument gets more comments from customers than just about any other instrument hanging in the shop. Everything seems to be original and in good working order except the bridge which is a custom made replacement. The mandolin plays and sounds very good. Action is medium and the tone is loud and bright. A most unique mandolin.
